Teaching

I'm enthusiastic about training the next generation of scientists and encouraging students from underrepresented groups to take on challenges in STEM.

Teaching Philosophy

Growth Mindset

My teaching is anchored in promoting a growth mindset, where challenges are seen not as setbacks but as vital steps in the learning journey. I consistently prioritize the ongoing development of students over isolated achievements.

Compassionate Mentorship

Mentorship, for me, is about promoting diversity and understanding individual strengths. By guiding students through their challenges, I aim to uplift diverse voices and enrich the learning experience.

Lifelong Learning

Learning, in my view, is a continuous process akin to research iteration. I use student feedback to refine my methods, always seeking improvement. I emphasize to students that growth is an ongoing journey fueled by curiosity and resilience.

Teaching Experience

I initiated my teaching path at Sharif University, Tehran, as an undergrad, teaching courses like Programming Fundamentals and Statics. This led to roles at McMaster University, where I guided students in Thermodynamics and taught a fluid mechanics lab, honing my classroom management skills. At the University of Toronto, I oversaw the health and safety module, emphasizing student training and safety. Throughout, I prioritized student support, rapport, and fairness.

Mentorship Experience

I view academia as a boundary-crossing venture, striving to impart this perspective to my students. Recognizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, I've mentored 20+ trainees, from high schoolers to postdocs and enjoyed doing research and publishing papers with my mentees. My mentorship emphasizes understanding, confidence-building, and showing the bigger research picture, especially to underrepresented groups. As a first-generation college graduate, mentorship is both a privilege and duty for me.
